Project 4 Montage

AshleyStewartP4Montage

  1. Description: This is my montage project. I used more than one image in this project and did my best to blend them.
  2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, Steps taken while designing):  I used Adobe Photoshop for this project. I used the blend tool and other masking layers …I used the image adjustments to change the colors a little.  I used the shadow on the text because some of the words got lost in the background.  I formulated a plan by deciding on a theme before I began. I organized my negative space and other components with rule of thirds. I contrasted by having a deeper color on the left and lighter colors on the right, but they still look good together. I unified the parts by using a filter on the opacity of my layers. I used the text to unify the message. I simplified my message by correlating the scripture with the images I used.
  3. Message: My message is that God is in all things. I tried to use the images and the scripture to do that.
  4. Audience: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or anyone who is drawn to Christ.
  5. Top Thing Learned: More than two images is not a bad thing.  And adding filters is not as scary as it seems.
  6. Filter / Colorization used and where it was applied: I added colorization with the layer of clouds in the background.
  7. Color scheme and color names: Tetradic- Red, green, blue, orange
  8. Title Font Name & Category: Graphic CAT-Brush Script font
  9. Copy Font Name & Category: Quicksand – Sans Serif

Project 3- Photodesign

P3AshleyStewart

  1. Description: This is my work for the Photodesign project. I wanted to create a visually appealing uplifting message for LDS members (or anyone who is inspired by good quotes)
  2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I formulated a plan by deciding what kind of layout I wanted. Something I failed to do in this project was to choose a color scheme before taking pictures. I organized the layout by creating several layers in adobe photoshop. I used contrast by making sure the lightest color of text was against the backgrounds and easily legible. I united the parts by using repetition in the shape. I tried to make the background look like leaves, my color swatch shapes resemble leaves in the image. I simplified the message by putting it in one spot and contrasting the colors.
  3. Message: The message is of growth and its importance in our lives. Growth by spiritual means must be our priority.
  4. Audience: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
  5. Top Thing Learned: I learned a ton about Photoshop and how the layers work . I learned how to draw shapes and create fills in the shape creator.
  6. Color scheme and color names: Monchromatic
  7. Title Font Name & Category: Back to Black Demo- Script font
  8. Copy Font Name & Category: Dream Orphans- Sans Serif
  9. Thumbnail of original, unedited image inserted: Monochromatic Option
  10. Date and location you took the photo(s): Garden of Heritage Apartments, 18 May 2016.

Lead Room

Lead Room

For the first post, I knew the picture I wanted to take before I took it. I really tried to get all the right angles to include all the right colors. The second photo I used natural light to take a photo of my watch and used Photoshop to increase my whites a little. For the foreground and background, I really struggled coming up with ideas. Once I knew what I wanted to do, I was very careful with the shutter and how it focused on my subject.

For the Rule of Thirds photo, I went in between the Library and the Smith Building to the scenery there. I like the buildup that the bricks make, it was really easy to make the lines in the image. For the lead room, I don’t know if I fully understand the concept but I tried to stick my subject, Steven, on the left third of the frame.

Project 2 Event Ad

Event Ad

  1. Description: This is an Ad for a charity event for children.
  2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I sketched out my ideas on a piece of paper and decided where I wanted the information to be put. I organized the layout on word by creating shapes and aligning things. I contrasted by using the darker colors as my text. I unified my parts by having text in all three circles and making sure my Title font brings the right message. I simplified my message by having something kid-friendly and not difficult to read or understand; this way, it draws the right audience.
  3. Message: This is a free event, and children in our community will benefit the underprivileged children.
  4. Audience: My audience is moms who have children and have some extra old toys in their house.
  5. Color scheme and color names: I chose a triadic color scheme. Since my colors were not bright and easy to find complementary colors, I used a scheme from Adobe colors. The colors did not have names but the scheme I used can be found here:https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel/
  6. Top Thing Learned: I learned about the placement of objects and text boxes.
  7. Title Font Name & Category: Title is Charter Black and it is a serif.
  8. Copy Font Name & Category:My copy font is Avenir Medium. It is a sans serif.
  9. Scanned images used, sources, original sizes, location of scanner used: The image I used was from Jaclyn Koger photography. This is a photo of my cousin. I scanned this printed image in the Spori Lab.

Project 1 Flier

Ashley-Stewart-InDesign-Flier

  1. Description: I used Adobe InDesign for this project. I did not know the program really at all but I used my basic knowledge of it to insert images, arrange text and image boxes, and to contrast colors nicely.
  2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I formulated a plan by sketching my ideas in my draft. I organized the layout by attempting to use the rule of thirds (It is difficult with this much content). Contrast was fairly simple because this was a black and white project, I needed to use lots of the gray scale to make things stand out. I unified the parts by grouping the overall purpose of the event, and the place and time it was to be held together. I put the information including the website down at the bottom. Simplifying was what I tried to do for this whole project. I didn’t think that a black background would really grab attention. I think the dark letters do it better.
  3. Message: I tried to really make this look professional by enlarging the picture of the students in the middle to show that it was a professional event.
  4. Audience: I used what I know about my audience to enlarge the right things. I enlarged “Graduate” because that is who I am trying to capture. I used the large picture to capture the eye of professionals, and I bolded the date, time, and place because that could be all that they read about the event.
  5. Top Thing Learned: I really learned how to use the Adobe InDesign program better.
  6. Title Font Name & Category: Serif
  7. Copy Font Name & Category: Sans Serif
